Children's Museum of the Mahoning Valley response to inquiry

 thanks for writing!
We would love to have you visit.
I suggest you plan for mid to late April, as we will still be tweaking our operations (Official Opening Date May 12, 2011).
Would you and your parents be interested in helping  us tweak our operations?

Help Influence Congress to Not cut Head Start Funding

12/07/2010

an alert requesting the Head Start community to go to the Support Head Start website and send a letter to Congress and the White House urging support for Head Start funding. In just 4 days, you sent over 7,000 letters to Congress and over 2,000 letters to the White House. EXCELLENT WORK!

If you have not submitted your letter yet, it is not too late to do so…in fact this is the perfect time to do it! As Congress delayed the final decision on FY2011 appropriation, the next two weeks are vital for getting your voice heard and influencing the end result. Click here to visit the site.

The steps are very, very easy and it literally takes only a minute.

Then get as many parents and friends of Head Start to weigh in!

Kelly Hall
Jennifer Annerino
Vanessa Haynes
Lisa Jarome
Thomas Brister

Approval of Minutes
The minutes were read by Fran Danko for the November meeting and approved.

Board
Kelly Hall was nominated as the new Secretary. A motion to elect Kelly  was made and all present voted in favor, and she was confirmed as the new Secretary.  The minutes can be viewed at   http://girardheadstart.blogspot.com in additional to the normal way of distributing them.

Fund Raising
The Cookie dough sale was successful.  We have not gotten the report of the final amount raised yet.
Half of the proceeds went to buy the children's Christmas presents.  The other half will be broken up per student to be spent as the parents' committee determines . The December fundraiser failed as we were unable to distribute tickets for our Christmas raffle basket in time to sell them. Thanks to the 2 parents and the Girard Parents' Committee that donated items.  Kelly Hall sits on the board at Someplace Safe and accepted the Christmas basket as a donation from the Girard Head Start Parents' committee for the Shelter's Christmas party this Saturday.  Another fundraiser will be planned in the Spring. A Chinese Auction and a Bake Sale was discussed. Ideas are welcome.

Field Trips
The Field trip to Kraynak's  was a success.  The next free field trip is planned for February 9th and 10th to the Girard Post Office.  The children will bring a self addresses stamped envelope with their name on it  and a valentine letter or card will be done in class before the trip.  On the day of the field trip, the children will mail the envelopes, tour behind the counter and view the inside of a mail truck.  In a few days, they will receive their letter at their homes.   Our last field trip can be paid, and we are considering the Children's Museum of the Mahoning Valley or the Akron Zoo.

Next Meeting

After the meeting was adjourned, Miss Vanessa had a Reindeer Candy cane craft that all enjoyed at the end of the meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

Kelly Hall, Secretary  -
